Off Day, Quiet Day

No Phils game yesterday, but some ex-Phils did well again. Vincente Padilla got his first win in his first start with the Texas Rangers. Mr. Enigma went 6 innings, gave up 4 hits and had 5 strikeouts as the Rangers beat Boston 10-4. For the Dodgers, J.D. Drew (don’t worry, the Disabled List looms somewhere) went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored and is hitting .556.
What’s sadder than this? I know he’s had a million chances, but I still think the Dwight Gooden story is tragic. Sentenced this morning to a year in jail, he might actually find that right now that is the best place for himThumbflsn10404051511gooden_arrested_flsn_1. In so many of the pictures of him, his face and eyes look very sad…some people just can’t fight the demons on their own. It seems like the talent and the glory are very far behind him.
Nomar Garciaparra didn’t take long to go on the DL this season. He’s got 15 days to see if his strained rib cage gets better. Hope Mia the missus is still making lots of money, because I think his days as big time breadwinner seem behind him.
How about Aaron Boone yesterday? The former Phillies batboy went 4 for 5 with a homer as the Indians clubbed the White Sox 8-2. Also in that game, Jim Thome hit his second homer in as many games and had another RBI (his third). The notoriously slow starter is batting .500 with 2 homers and 3 RBI in 2 games. Way to go, Jim. One last thing about that game – how classy were the White Sox fans when they gave our new centerfielder the loudest ovation during the ring ceremony? I am very excited to have Rowand here now, and yesterday’s gracious gesture from the Chicago fans showed me they were sorry to lose him – even if it meant bringing Thome "home."
One last thing – raise your hand if you give a **** about Barry Bonds’ reality show. Thought so.
